The Homestead was a commission piece finished in July 2008 and especially handpainted for Des. You may click on the thumbnail to view a close up of the finished painting and then detailed close ups of 3 different sections.

The Homestead complete. The canvas size 24" x 30" (60cm x 76cm).
Close up of the Homestead and the watertanks a necessity on most Australian properties. The home is sounded by Australian gum trees.
Close up of the old man with his dog. I so wanted to call the painting 'Colour Bond' as he appears to be looking at the roof of his homestead.
Close up of the main focal point of the painting 'The Dodge'. The owner of this painting collects old cars and owned a dodge when he was first married.
As with most painting I do, I work from back to front. Sky, mountains forground were painted in.
The homestead features lattice work across the front and along the far verandah with a red iron roof.
The chimney, 2 gallanvised tanks, big gum tree and the distant sheds were added next.
Ok I changed my mind, I didn't like the colour of the paddock leading up to the homestead so I redid it. The top section of the painting is complete at this stage.
2 Horses casually look over the timber front fence. Shrubs added on right hand side.
Oh boy the start of the dodge. Lets just say that 4hrs later I was happy with the wheels.
I painted the car in sections with alot of under tones. I only used water as my blending medium and built up to the highlights.
The finishing details was added to the dodge and the old man was added to add interest to the middle section.
